The Il Ciccio Barbera originates from a small vineyard that is handpicked by myself and Aniano that is situated in upper benchland locations of the Chalk Hill AVA. The vineyard is planted in volcanic ash and rocky, gravelly soil and lies within a gap between Knoles that funnel wind through the vineyard adding to extra hang time and acid. The 2023 Il Ciccio is a fruit bomb with a deep purple hue. The pallet is silky smooth with intense flavors of Boysenberry, Raspberry, Blackberry, Strawberry and dark stone fruit finishing with hints of spice and licorice, mocha and coffee. The pallet is complimented with floral notes of lavender and dried herb bouquet. This is a silky fruit bomb with a very controlled acid profile. Food pairing suggestions: Tallegio, Parmigiano Reggiano and Gouda. Barbera pairs well with grilled Pork, sausage, wild game bird and Venison, Charcuterie or almost any pasta with red sauce.
